A strong start gave Lewis Hamilton his fourth win in July as he too the chequered flag in Germany.
Pole sitter Nico Rosberg got away slowly and was passed by both Red Bulls, which he spent the rest of the race scrapping with.
However an altercation with Max Verstappen at the hairpin led to Rosberg receiving a five-second time penalty. He served it at his final pit stop which left him running to the end behind the two RB12s.
Daniel Ricciardo took second place after falling behind his team mate at the start. Red Bull had their drivers exchange positions at one point to ensure both benefited from Rosberg’s delay.
A slow pit stop for Kimi Raikkonen dropped him to sixth place behind team mate Sebastian Vettel. Nico Hulkenberg took seventh ahead of Jenson Button after Valtteri Bottas fell back to ninth place on fading tyres in the final laps,
Sergio Perez took the final point ahead of Esteban Gutierrez. The only retirements were Felipe Massa, who was hit by Jolyon Palmer at the start, and Felipe Nasr, whose Sauber stopped in the final laps.
Lewis Hamilton took his fifth victory at the Hungaroring after beating team mate Nico Rosberg to win the Hungarian Grand Prix to take the lead of the drivers’ championship.
Hamilton leapt out front at the start and was only ever headed during the pit stop cycles as he managed the gap to Rosberg behind and take the chequered flag and the championship lead.
Daniel Ricciardo held of Sebastian Vettel’s Ferrari to take third, while Max Verstappen survived a late challenge from Kimi Raikkonen to secure fifth.
As the lights went out, it was Hamilton who got the better start of the two Mercedes and swept into the lead into the first turn. Ricciardo also got a great start and tried to pass the Mercedes pair around the outside and appeared to have dispatched Rosberg, but the championship leader was able to snatch second position back from the Red Bull into turn two.
After keeping Verstappen behind him for over ten laps earlier in the race, Raikkonen found himself chasing down the Red Bull for fifth in the final stint. Verstappen defended the Ferrari’s attacks robustly, with Raikkonen clipping the back of the Ferrari into turn two and losing part of his front wing.
Rosberg did briefly begin to put his team mate under mild pressure in the final stint but was unable to mount a genuine challenge for the lead of the race. Hamilton counted down the laps to take his fifth victory at the Hungaroring and the lead in the drivers’ championship.
Sebastian Vettel tried a late challenge on Daniel Ricciardo, but could not pass the Red Bull driver, who held on to take the final podium place. Verstappen held off Raikkonen, while Fernando Alonso capped off a strong weekend for McLaren with seventh. Carlos Sainz, Valtteri Bottas and Nico Hulkenberg rounded out the top ten.
Lewis Hamilton took his fourth victory at Silverstone after a dramatic race which started in the rain to close the gap in the championship to just four points.
Hamilton finished comfortably ahead of his team mate Nico Rosberg who suffered with gearbox issues on the final few laps, but remains under investigation for radio messages coaching him on how to fix the problem.
Mercedes took a one-two finish at the flag but Nico Rosberg’s second place remains in doubt as the stewards are investigating assistance given to him by his team on the radio when he experienced a problem with his gearbox.
Max Verstappen took the flag in third place after racing hard with Rosberg and passing him around the outside at Becketts early in the race. Daniel Ricciardo, who lost time due to a Virtual Safety Car period early in the race, took fourth.
Kimi Raikkonen took fifth ahead of the two Force India drivers after passing Sergio Perez. Carlos Sainz Jnr finished eighth ahead of Sebastian Vettel, who was given a five second penalty for forcing Felipe Massa wide while overtaking the Williams driver.
The final points scorer and last driver on the lead lap was Daniil Kvyat.
The first five laps of the race were run behind the Safety Car after a cloudburst 20 minutes before the start soaked the circuit.
