New Keis J601RP UltraFlex Heated Jacket For Winter Riding

There are some potential benefits to riding through cold weather, but it’s important to stay warm for your safety as well as comfort. It’s hard to concentrate when you’re shivering, so even if you’re using an old winter hack for commuting, something like the new Keis J601RP UltraFlex heated jacket can be a worthwile investment.

The UltraFlex material has been developed by Keis from 85% Chinlon and 15% Spandex to create a mid-layer which is flexible, comfortable, and not too bulky. And as a bonus, Chinlon also wicks away moisture, which is handy. Plus it’s soft, and combined with the stretchy Spandex, you get a snug fit to make the most of the heating without hampering your movement on the bike, or any uncomfortable rubbing and chafing.

New Keis Heated Leisure Puffer Jacket

Designed to be used as a mid-layer when riding motorcycles, or to keep you warm whatever else you plan on doing outdoors, the new Keis Heated Leisure Puffer Jacket should keep you nice and toasty.

It’s powered by a portable Keis 2600mAh battery in a dedicated pocket and capable of providing up to 6 hours of heat, and it’s compatible with the supplied Keis portable charger. And that’s connected to Micro Carbon Fibre Technology heat panels across the chest and back for when you want to tackle the cold.

The new Keis Heated Leisure Puffer Jacket comes in sizes S-L (UK 36″-44″ chest), with the portable battery pack and a charger. It also comes with a lifetime warranty, and can be hand washed as needed, at a cost of £260.

So it’s a bit of a luxury, and obviously you’ll need to check whether it works underneath your winter motorcycle jacket as a mid-layer, as it’s a bit bulkier than some of the other options. But it’ll also work as a standalone winter coat when you’re not riding your bike, so it does have that benefit over the other options. And you’ll definitely be able to look smug when people around you are shivering in the cold.

Streamlined New Keis G701 Shorty Heated Gloves

Winter motorcycling can be a lot more pleasant with some heated clothing, especially for your hands and feet. But the problem is that it normally adds a bit of bulk, which is where the slimmer and more streamlined new Keis G701 Shorty heated gloves come in.

The extra layers and equipment can make heated motorcycle gloves a hassle to fit with the cuffs of a bike jacket. But the short-cuff version has been designed so they should easily slip underneath, meaning no gaps for the cold and wet weather to sneak in.

As with the normal, longer length versions, you get a layer of 3M Thinsulate for insulation to retain the warmth, and the micro carbon fibre heating panels with Far InfraRed Radiation heating will keep your pinkies nice and warm. Which is important for comfort, but even more vital for maintaining proper control of a motorcycle. There’s not much worse than numb hands when you’re trying to avoid idiotic drivers and treacherous diesel spills in bad weather. Not only is it distracting, but it makes fine throttle and brake control a challenge.

Heated grips are an alternative option, but only warm the palms of your hands on the bars. The gloves have heat sources on the top of the hands and around the fingers, and apparently the elements are so reliable they come with a lifetime warranty, which is impressive.

There’s an integral controller on the back of the hand so you can turn the gloves on and off, or adjust the temperature. The power comes from an on-board 12V socket found on most bikes, or via a supplied lead from the battery, with an inbuilt voltage regulator to prevent the gloves from overheating. And if you have a Keis heated jacket or vest, you can take the power from that instead with some additional power leads sold separately.

The new Keis G701 Shorty Heated Gloves are covered by a two-year warranty and come in sizes from 3XS-3XL at a cost of £190.
