We mentioned it in passing when we covered the fibreglass version of the MX701, but the new LS2 MX701 Explorer Carbon helmet is a lighter option for dual sport and adventure riding without breaking the bank.
The main selling point of the carbon version is a lighter weight, alongside the fact that carbon fibre always looks a bit trick. So while the fibreglass composite helmet tips the scales at 1460g, the LS2 MX701 Explorer Carbon comes in around 1380g.
Aside from the material used, the specifications are pretty much identical to the non-carbon version. Which means you get three sizes of outer shell to get the best fit and profile in a long oval shape, a breathable hypoallergenic liner which is removable and washable, and the vent system with intakes on the crown, sides and chin, and exits at the rear.
You get an adjustable and removable peak, which means the MX701 becomes more of a road-style helmet. Handy if you’re riding long distances on tarmac before heading off-road for adventures. And you also get a Pinlock-ready visor with an anti-fog shield supplied, double D-ring fastening, and an Emergency Release System to remove the chin pads quickly and easily.
The LS2 MX701 Explorer Carbon is ECE 22.05 certified in sizes XS-2XL, and costs £299.99 for the solid carbon finish, or £319.99 if you want to cover up some of that weave with graphics.
You can order LS2 helmets online from GhostBikes (or RevZilla in the U.S), including some good discounts and deals. If you’re looking for a new motorcycle helmet, why not check out our other Helmet news and articles, or our previous coverage of the LS2 range?
