PLUG-IN PORSCHE 911

Sacrilege Motors, a bespoke performance, restoration and electric-conversion studio, will reveal its first Porsche 911 commission on the Concept Lawn at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance on Sunday, August 20, 2023. Sacrilege Motors is the premier restoration and electric-conversion company devoted to evolving the classic Porsche 911 by preserving its analog driving feel and precise handling, while updating its performance and reducing its environmental impact.

Nicknamed BLACKBIRD by its owner, in honor of the supersonic Lockheed SR-71 aircraft, this  triple-black commission, a ‘92 Porsche 911 America Roadster, is the first to be restored, performance-tuned, and converted to an electric powertrain at Sacrilege Motors’ headquarters in Lakeville, CT. Housed in a former Skip Barber facility, Sacrilege Motors chose the location for its proximity to  the historic Lime Rock Park racing circuit, where the BLACKBIRD PLUG-IN PORSCHE 911 development testing took place. The Porsche 911 America Roadster is a limited-edition, U.S. version of the Porsche 911 Carrera 2 Cabriolet Turbo-look, one of 250 made. Originally equipped with a Tiptronic  transmission, this car now has a single-gear, all-electric powertrain.

“Our passion for Porsche cars is paramount to this project,” said Bobby Singh, Sacrilege Motors’ president and technical lead. “We want to deliver an analog, air-cooled-era 911 with the reliability and instant power of an EV, while preserving an exhilarating driving experience that’s familiar to air-cooled 911 enthusiasts. Retaining the 911’s best handling characteristics, with added performance and up graded components, all while reducing its environmental impact, was our ultimate goal. We’ve kept  the same weight distribution, which is crucial to the car feeling like a Porsche 911 should.”

“Since 1997 I have owned a Porsche 911 993 Turbo…my dream car, maintained by Bobby for almost  30 years.” Sacrilege Motors CEO Phil Wagenheim said. “For this commission, we set out to maintain the soul of a Porsche 911 and familiarity of its driving experience, while adding a low-maintenance, high-performance powerplant. I’m not telling anyone to give up internal combustion…I’m not. What we are doing at Sacrilege is we’re just adding an electric power option to your analog quiver of fun.”

Zapp Secure European Patents For Their Electric Scooter Design

One of the big challenges for manufacturers is how your vehicles will stand out if everyone is using batteries and motors. So it’s an important step when Zapp secure European patents for their electric scooter design, which has already won a number of awards.

And the other patent is for the removable front fairing, which you can replace to change colours or designs in the future. Apparently you’ll need to get the upgrade performed by an authorised technician coming to your home or work to swap the part over for the new version, rather than just heading into the garage yourself, but you also don’t need to pay for a respray or spend hours in the garage with rattle cans to get a new look for your scooter.

If you’re aiming to ride a Zapp i300 on an A1 license you’ll need to have your power limited, with a key sent to you to unlock full power (19hp peak, 8hp continous) when you go on to complete your A2 license. That means an unrestricted top speed electronically limited to 60mph. And you should get a range of up to around 60km from twin portable Litium-ion battery packs, riding in Eco Mode. There’s space for a pillion with a combined weight limit of 150kg.

There are currently four Zapp i300 models available to be reserved for £100, with the i300 Ocean starting at £6,495, the i300 Bio at £7,495, the i300 Carbon at £7,995, and the i300 Carbon Launch Edition for £8,495.

You can keep up with the latest news on Zapp electric vehicles here. And they can currently be reserved through the official website.

The vehicle will be the Swedish electric performance car company’s first SUV and will join the existing Polestar 2 five-door fastback in the line-up.

Polestar 3 will feature a dual-motor drivetrain and a large battery, with a range target of around 373 miles.

Zap-Map reveals UK’s best electric vehicle charge point networks

Zap-Map, the UK’s leading electric vehicle mapping service, has released its annual public charging network satisfaction rankings.

The league table, now in its fourth year, comes from Zap-Map’s annual EV charging survey, which had more than 3,000 respondents and is the most established and comprehensive survey of EV drivers in the UK.

As part of the survey, respondents rated their overall satisfaction for the networks they use regularly, which is then used to rank each network out of a maximum of five stars. They also rated their level of satisfaction with the networks in four key areas: reliability, ease of use, cost and facilities

In first place overall this year is InstaVolt. The rapid charging network scored particularly highly for reliability and ease of use, securing its ‘Best EV Charging Network’ badge.

Taking the ‘EV Driver Recommended’ second and third places respectively are two other rapid charging networks, MFG EV Power and Osprey.

EV network Overall rating
InstaVolt 4.4
MFG EV Power 4.2
Osprey 4.0
Pod Point 3.8
GRIDSERVE Electric Highway 3.6
Shell Recharge 3.6
NewMotion 3.5
IONITY 3.5
Ubitricity 3.4
Swarco E.connect 3.3
GeniePoint (includes ENGIE) 3.1
ESB Energy 3.0
ChargePlace Scotland 2.9
Source London 2.7
EV Charge Online 2.6
bp pulse 2.5

“Despite significant changes over the course of the year, there are some things that remain the same,” said Melanie Shufflebotham, co-founder and COO at Zap-Map.

“EV drivers are clear about the factors that make for a good charging experience, namely reliability and ease of use – and these should be key priorities for the UK’s public charging networks.

“The Zap-Map survey shows that while this is being delivered by some, others are falling short and there needs to be improvement. As we move from the early adopters towards mass EV adoption, making public charging simple becomes more important than ever.”
