Dacia Duster

The all-new Dacia Duster has been named ‘Car of the Year’ and ‘Best Small Family Car’ in the 2025 Carbuyer Best Car Awards.

Now in its third generation, the Duster was praised for its sharp design, quality, value for money and some clever touches.

Commenting on the win, Carbuyer Editor, Paul Barker, said: “The Dacia Duster has become a smash hit with British buyers who love its no-nonsense, affordable approach to SUV ownership. Well guess what, the third-generation Duster is even better.

“It’s more practical and electrified engines mean it’s more economical too. If you want it, there’s even a four-wheel drive version that’s a genuine budget off-roader.

“Dacia has always done value for money very well but the new Duster is a far more complete package than we’ve seen before from the brand.

“Sharp design, improved quality and a host of clever touches make it a fantastic small family car. And it’s still cheap to buy and run, too.”

Vauxhall Frontera

In an industry first, Vauxhall has confirmed its new Frontera compact SUV will be launched with price parity for electric and petrol-powered models.

The average list price difference across the wider market between an electric and petrol car is currently 31%. That has been reduced to 0% with the new Frontera.

So, for £23,495, entry-level customers will be able to choose either an EV version with a 111bhp front-mounted electric motor and 44kWh battery, giving a claimed range of up to 186 miles, or a 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol-electric hybrid with total power of 99bhp.

The hybrid will come with a choice of five or seven seats, while the EV will be a five-seater only. Additionally, a ‘Long Range’ EV version will arrive in 2025 with a range of up to 248 miles.

The Frontera, which is a replacement for the Crossland, will sit between the Mokka and upcoming all-new Grandland in the Vauxhall range.

The launch of the new model also marks the return of the Frontera name, which was originally used on a forgettable SUV in the 1990s.

The all-new Frontera’s many rivals include the Hyundai Kona, MG ZS, Ford Puma, Kia Soul, Dacia Duster and Nissan Qashqai.

100,000th UK Dacia Duster customer

Dacia has sold its 100,000 Duster SUV since its launch in the UK in 2013.

Gail Hill was the special customer, taking delivery of her Dusty Khaki-finished Journey TCe 150 Auto from Mitchells Dacia in Lowestoft.

Since its launch, the Duster has accounted for 36% of all Dacia sales in the UK and it’s won more than 20 UK industry awards, including ‘Best Small SUV’, ‘Best Off-Roader’ and ‘Best Value Car’.

“I hadn’t considered a Duster before buying my original one, but my son said it was a good car,” said Gail.

“I needed something with a bigger boot and the Duster had plenty of space, plus it was a really good price and felt very solid.

The latest offers made upgrading to a new one more affordable than I thought, and I love the colour and how it drives with the automatic – it does go very well!”

So far, more than 12,500 drivers have already registered their interest in the all-new Dacia Duster ahead of its launch later this year.

Dacia celebrates 10 years in the UK

Value-for-money car brand Dacia is celebrating its first decade in the UK.

The first UK-registered Dacia was a Sandero in January 2013. Since then, a total of 240,010 Dacia vehicles have been sold.

The rugged Duster is the UK’s most popular model, recording 88,488 registrations.

Dacia’s success shows no sign of slowing as the brand enters 2023 having achieved an increase in year-on-year sales of 55% last year.

When Dacia launched, David Cameron was the Prime Minister and the last word in tech was the release of the Apple iPhone 5S and 5C.

The year was also be memorable for the birth of Prince George, while Sir Alex Ferguson retired as Manager of Manchester United.

Dacia Sandero Stepway and Dacia Sandero

The Sandero supermini and Sandero Stepway soon complemented the Duster and a decade later the trio still feature in the Dacia range. The Sandero Stepway has notched up 71,236 sales, while 59,987 examples of the Sandero have been sold.

The growing number of accolades the Renault-owned brand has received include several wins at the What Car? Car of the Year Awards, Auto Express New Car Awards and Auto Trader New Car Awards.

Today, Dacia commands an impressive 3.1% retail market share, a remarkable achievement for a brand that has only been in the UK for 10 years.
