Jeffrey Herlings Crowned 2021 MXGP World Champion

It’s a second title for the 27-year-old Dutch motocross racer, with Jeffrey Herlings crowned 2021 MXGP World Champion at the final round. Heading into the Grand Prix Cita di Mantova in Italy, he was one of three riders separated by just three points, along with Romain Febvre and Tim Gajser.

But by winning both races at the final event Herlings took the championship by just five points, claiming nine victories and 14 podiums along the way, along with 13 pole positions. It’s his fifth world title, and second in MXGP. And with 99 race wins FIM Motocross World Championship wins, he’s just two away from setting a new all-time record. Which seems likely with at least another two years ahead on his Red Bull KTM Factory contract.

The MX2 title was taken by Maxime Renaux for the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 Team, ahead of team-mate Jago Geerts, with KTM’s defending champion Tom Vialle finishing third overall. The race honours were shared between Geerts and Renaux at the Mantova round, with Geerts declared the overall round winner.
