2025 JAVA HOUSE GRAND PRIX OF MONTEREY

Fast cars and coffee pods provide perky stimulation for INDYCAR fans at the 2025 JAVA HOUSE GRAND PRIX OF MONTEREY. CGC’s Jim Palam was trackside.

2025 JAVA HOUSE GRAND PRIX OF MONTEREYWeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca is about a four-hour drive North from my home in Solvang, CA, and a world away from mundane tasks that make up my average days. It’s no surprise that we are sometimes called Adrenaline Junkies; our hearts beat faster, and our focus is sharper when we’re participating in enthusiast automotive activities.

So it was with wide-eyed enthusiasm that I donned my safety vest and headed trackside for the 2025 JAVA HOUSE GRAND PRIX OF MONTEREY as a freelance photojournalist for CarGuyChronicles.com – even though personal obligations limited me to just the first two days of this exciting three-day event. “Java House/Monterey” is part of the 17-race NTT INDYCAR SERIES. This non-stop race weekend also included the INDY NXT by Firestone races, the Porsche Sprint Challenge races, and the Radical Cup Race that featured open cockpit sports cars manufactured by Radical Motorsport.

While behind-the-K-rail trackside shooting is the adrenaline-pumper for most shooters at races, I also love the pre-practice/pre-qualifying/pre-race time spent exploring pit row, the paddock, and the promenade areas. In the media center, Java House had set up a nicely stocked coffee bar featuring the race sponsor’s smooth-tasting, cold-brewed, ready-to-drink coffee pods. Just pop a pod into cold or hot water and you’re ready to enjoy these 100% Arabica bean beverages.

Of course, better than the smell of fresh coffee in the morning are the sights, sounds, and aromas of open-wheel IndyCars flying down Laguna Seca’s famous “Corkscrew”. I captured 2024 USF Pro 2000 champion Lochie Hughes from Queensland, Australia, hugging turn 8A, above, in Andretti Global Racing’s car No. 26 during Friday’s Indy NXT by Firestone Practice Race #1. Andretti Global Racing was founded by Michael Andretti in the early 2000s.

It’s hard to miss Chip Ganassi Racing’s bright red and yellow DHL livery Car No.10 because its driver, Alex Palou, usually has this tuned-to-win IndyCar out front in the lead position. Here is Alex well ahead of the field during Saturday’s NTT INDYCAR SERIES Practice #2. Palou and Team Ganassi dominated the Grand Prix, leading 84 of 95 laps to finish in P1 at the 2025 Java House Grand Prix of Monterey. His win in the Chip Ganassi Honda ratcheted him to 8 wins in 14 races this season, putting him in contention for one of the most dominant seasons in INDYCAR racing history.

My windshield wipers set the tempo for an early morning drive from my hotel to the South Boundary entry road at Laguna Seca. A daybreak mist is nothing unusual in Monterey, but soon it turned into a light rain, which not only dampened some spirits at the track but also delayed practice and qualifying sessions by more than two hours. To kill time, I headed back to pit row where I photographed Over-the-Wall crews of tire changers, fuelers, and jack operators – and Behind-the-Wall support teams of stop sign/front air hose/wing crews – as well as data acquisition and race engineers, race strategists, and spotters. Racing: It takes a village!

2025 JAVA HOUSE GRAND PRIX OF MONTEREYThe rain delay gave me a little extra time to poke around the pit row garages. If you’re not a race team photographer, this is not encouraged and often banned, but it was early enough that a polite request at the Ed Carpenter Racing garage got me just beyond the rollup doors. And, I was able to quickly grab a few shots of their Java House-sponsored, Alexander Rossi-driven Car No. 20. ECR’s ownership group is comprised of four Indianapolis, IN, businessmen: Ed Carpenter, Ted Gelov, Tony George, and Stuart Reed. Gelov is the owner of Heartland Food Products Group, which owns consumer brands, Splenda and Java House Coffee.

Balance is Everything. In fact, it plays a critical role in the design and performance of all racecars. Once again, the rain delay provided an opportunity to document this shot of Team Penske’s No. 2 NTT INDYCAR’s front suspension. Meticulously designed and crafted upper and lower A-arms and inside-the-body suspension push rods would hopefully help No. 2’s driver, two-time NTT INDYCAR Series champion and two-time Indianapolis 500 winner, Josef Newgarden, steer his Penske car to a podium win. Out of the 26 cars finishing the GP, Newgarden finished 11th at the 2025 JAVA HOUSE GRAND PRIX OF MONTEREY.

HM Road Racing Development is a Porsche Motorsports specialty shop in Las Vegas, NV. Under the ownership and guidance of Henry Marshall, HM specializes in sports car endurance racing, while also offering driver development and coaching programs. I spotted two of HM’s racecars being prepped for the Porsche Sprint Challenge Races in a state-of-the-art paddock prep area. Henry drives HM Car No. 78, and from the look of things, it’s ready to charge into action.

2025 JAVA HOUSE GRAND PRIX OF MONTEREYRacing Toward Zero. Back in 2023, INDYCAR set ambitious sustainability initiatives and targets. By 2030, the NTT INDYCAR SERIES wants to become the most sustainable motorsport in North America by reducing race operations emissions by 50%, sourcing renewable electricity for all INDYCAR events, and implementing recycling and composting at every INDYCAR event. Today, INDYCAR racing utilizes a 100% renewable race fuel, a blend of second-generation ethanol and other renewable components, supplied by Shell. This fuel is 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline. All very impressive, but does the paddock pump attendant clean your windshield?

I grabbed this shot of the Droplight-sponsored RLL No. 45 IndyCar early Saturday morning as it was being towed by an electric Tugger into the pit lane to prepare for the NTT INDYCAR Series Practice #2. This car is driven by Louis Foster for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing (RLL). A heavy mist soon turned into a light drizzle, which was enough to delay events at the track for over two hours. You may notice that the No. 45’s nose cone is sitting considerably higher than it would be for the race, to prevent it from being damaged as the cars are moved around the uneven and sometimes damp surfaces of the paddock.

No Place for A Screw-up: 2022 NTT INDYCAR Series Rookie of the Year, Christian Lundgaard, holds a tight lead in his bright orange No. 7 Arrow McLaren down through the twisty Corkscrew at Laguna Seca Raceway, in Practice Race #1 on Friday, July 25th. NTT INDYCAR racecars weigh approximately 1,700 pounds, have a roof height around 40 inches, and get their 650-700 horsepower from twin-turbocharged hybrid V6 engines. Actual horsepower is dependent on the turbo boost pressure used during the race. Up to 150 additional horsepower is available via the hybrid unit.

Andretti Global Racing’s Car No. 28 is slightly airborne as it charges into the Corkscrew. Behind the wheel is Oslo, Norway-born Dennis Hauger, who made his American racing debut after joining AGR in 2025 and grabbing two impressive wins in the Indy NXT Series. Hauger had a mixed weekend at the 2025 JAVA HOUSE GRAND PRIX OF MONTEREY. He finished second in Race #1 on Saturday but unfortunately finished in 16th place in Race #2 on Sunday, after making contact with his AGR teammate, Lochie Hughes.

Louis Foster waves to the race fans assembled up by the infamous Corkscrew during a practice lap on Friday, July 25th. Foster, who won the INDY NXT by Firestone championship in 2024, made his NTT INDYCAR SERIES debut at the 2025 JAVA HOUSE GRAND PRIX OF MONTEREY. Driving as a rookie for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, he finished a disappointing 17th on Sunday, after struggling with balance and grip issues. Damp and repaved track surfaces were a challenge for all competitors throughout the weekend.

IndyCar driver Bryce Aron is on it hard coming out of Turn 3 at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca during the 2025 JAVA HOUSE GRAND PRIX OF MONTEREY Indy NXT Race #1. Bryce is a native of Winnetka, IL. In 2025, he started driving Car No. 9 for Chip Ganassi Racing. His 2024 rookie INDY NXT season was with Andretti Global Racing and featured two podiums and three top-five finishes. He finished the 35-lap Race #1 in 10th position.

I arrived at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca at 11 AM on Friday and headed straight to the Media Center, where I checked in, got my safety vest, and then hustled over to the start/finish line, where I grabbed my first photo of the day. Whipping by me in the Porsche Sprint Challenge Practice #1 was Matt Dusek in his Charlie Hughes Racing-prepared Porsche GT3 Cup car. Its bright copper-orange livery was impossible to miss. CHR had 5 cars successfully competing over the 3 days of racing, and Dusek’s Car No. 251 had a podium P2 finish on Sunday in the Porsche 992 GT3 Cup Pro-Am class. Way to go, gang!

2025 JAVA HOUSE GRAND PRIX OF MONTEREYVariety is the Spice of Life: Well, if anyone thought the 2025 JAVA HOUSE GRAND PRIX OF MONTEREY would be a mellow brew, they had a big surprise thanks to some bonus adrenaline-pumping competition showcased in the Radical Cup North America Series racing. This multiclass race series featured 30 Radical Car competitors, including high-horsepower SR10s in the Platinum class, and lower horsepower Pro 1500 and Pro 1350 cars. Radical Motorsports cars made their debut over 25 years ago as lightweight sportscars that utilized superbike and racecar technology. Based in Cambridgeshire, England, Radical Motorsport has produced over 3,000 cars, which are owned, driven, and raced all around the globe. I captured this shot of a radically jammed paddock lane before Radical Cup Qualifying on Friday.

A lot of senior motorsports fans have an unfounded fear that once their generation is gone, so will be fast cars and motorsports. Well, fear not, because programs like Path to the Pits are facilitating nationwide access to racing & career mentorship opportunities for young adults. PTTP works with local colleges, tech education programs, and industry partners like Firestone Racing to host young adults focused on STEM careers at exciting at-track and virtual events, plus career support and networking opportunities. Participants receive free admission, lunch, and exclusive access to the paddock, professional team members, and industry experts. We can all rest easy!

DAN GURNEY’S REAL-FINE CHEVY 409

DAN GURNEY’S REAL-FINE CHEVY 409 will Pace the Dan Gurney Saloon Car Trophy Race at the upcoming Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion!

DAN GURNEY’S REAL-FINE CHEVY 409

Few would call American racing hero Dan Gurney subtle when he entered a slightly modified stock ‘61 Chevy Impala to race against smaller displacement cars at the British Saloon Car Championship at Silverstone 63 years ago. Now, under the rightful ownership of his son Justin Gurney, this original Impala will be driven by Justin as the pace car for the Dan Gurney Saloon Car Trophy race at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion on August 13-16 at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.

“My dad loved this car and always talked about it,” explained Justin Gurney, president and CEO of the famed All-American Racers. “There’s a photo of him driving it in our office’s hallway and a large mural in the shop.”

But it was bittersweet as the Impala was banned before the next race after its lone appearance where he was leading before a wheel broke on the second to last lap. “Dad wasn’t very happy with the ban before the second race and tried to argue his case, but in the end realized he couldn’t fight city hall and sold it on the spot.”

Justin is excited about returning to Laguna Seca and bringing this historic Impala to life. “I’m not going to race the car, but to participate as the pace car in the Dan Gurney Saloon Car Trophy races is going to be exciting and sentimental,” he explained. “When unmuffled as it will be, the deep guttural 409 big block engine should turn quite a few heads, to say the least.”

DAN GURNEY’S REAL-FINE CHEVY 409

When DAN GURNEY’S REAL-FINE CHEVY 409 Impala was restored, the original 409 engine couldn’t be found, so a replacement 409 was installed. But when the owner expressed interest in selling the car to Justin, the original 409 with matching numbers was found powering a boat!

Several weeks ago, when the container arrived in the Port of Los Angeles after a circuitous route through Scotland, Europe, Panama Canal, and Canada, for which Justin kept tracking its movement, he anxiously unlocked and swung open the door to see DAN GURNEY’S REAL-FINE CHEVY 409 Impala for the first time, with its original 409 engine!

“It was an emotional experience to sit on the bench seat and take hold of the steering wheel. It even has the original AM radio that Dad kept intact, although this car is so loud there is no way you could hear music!”

“We are thrilled to invite Justin to the Rolex Reunion and have him bring this historic Impala that meant so much to his dad,” said Bruce Canepa, chair of the Rolex Reunion Advisory Council and vice president of Friends of Laguna Seca. “Everyone will enjoy seeing and hearing this long-lost car fittingly serve as the pace car for the Saloon car race. Making memories like this are what the Rolex Reunion is all about.”

Justin was anxious to show DAN GURNEY’S REAL-FINE CHEVY 409 Impala to his mother Evi and give her a ride around town. And according to Canepa, he’s pressing Justin to take her out as a passenger during the pace laps at the Rolex Reunion. “I can’t think of a better tribute to Dan than to have Evi riding shotgun with Justin in one of Dan’s favorite cars at one of his favorite race courses,” Canepa said.

DAN GURNEY’S REAL-FINE CHEVY 409To enjoy being part of the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion and bear witness to more than 400 historic race cars competing, the 75th Anniversary Celebration of Formula 1® and the return of the IROC race series with many of their legendary drivers behind the wheel, start planning now.

PORSCHE RENNSPORT REUNION 7

Pizazz, performance & provenance at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca for the PORSCHE RENNSPORT REUNION 7.

How do you know if a niche motorsports event is successful? Well for one, it’s 6 AM and you’re seeing cars parked all over the hills that surround the event location – WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey County, California. And then you begin to see signs along the entry roads stating “General Admission and Paddock SOLD OUT.” After reading that I stared down at the media pass and parking permit sitting at-the-ready on my passenger seat and took a deep breath. “I’m good” I thought, and 15 minutes later I was walking through a corridor of super-sized and super-cool Porsche graphics that adorned the walls of the entry paths and the new Start/Finish bridge at Laguna Seca.

Porsche agreed to hold its PORSCHE RENNSPORT REUNION 7 and 75th  Year Heritage Celebration at Laguna Seca under the conditions that major improvements be made at the track. And WeatherTech complied: Not only is there the new Start/Finish bridge that can now accommodate carts and pedestrians, but the famous 2.238-mile track has been completely repaved. When I photographed tall Malcolm Ross who was the Rennsport 7 driver of the famous Rothmans ’85 Porsche 962c-003 pictured above, he smiled broadly and gave me a “Thumb’s Up” after I asked him how the repaved track feels. Malcolm’s family owns Ross Racing and an impressive collection of iconic race cars, including the Rothmans Racing car No. 1.Porsche’s heralded racing history may make it difficult for us to think about Porsche as a gilded luxury brand, but the many TAG Heuer Porsche, cross-promotion efforts that were on display under the ‘TAG Heuer Heritage Experience’ exhibition tent in the paddock were unapologetic in their messages of racing and refinement. This sexy and svelte ‘TAG Heuer x Porsche – Legends of Panamericana’ Sonderwunsch project car is a one-of-two, specially prepared 718 Cayman GT4 RS’s that will be participating in the upcoming Carrera Panamericana race this October 13th -19th. Look for Patrick Dempsey to be behind the wheel of Sonderwunsch cars in media promotions for these two luxury brands and in the fabled Mexican endurance race. There was a heavy mist and at times rain showers on Saturday, Day 3 of the 4-day PORSCHE RENNSPORT REUNION 7 – but that did not dampen spirits or stop the activities at Laguna Seca. While some attendees ducked under tents and umbrellas, I waddled around the paddock seeking photo ops, now that fewer people were surrounding celebrated cars like the race-winning Penske 963 Porsche Car No. 7 featured here. This icon helped secure a one-two victory for Penske, finishing 2nd at the recent IMSA WeatherTech Sports Car Championship at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Porsche colleagues Matt Campbell from Australia and Felipe Nasr from Brazil were the drivers.PORSCHE RENNSPORT REUNION 7Dreams do come true. Thirty years ago, Porsche collector Cameron Healy discovered a little red Porsche Gmünd roadster at the Monterey Historics. His interest in the car became an obsession and when the previous owner died in 2009, Cameron acquired the car. It turned out to be one of the three examples Porsche entered in the 1951 24 Hours of Le Mans – and the aluminum body car that took First Place in the 1100-cc class. Healy would then oversee a long and exacting restoration bringing the Gmünd back to its original coupe body configuration and 1951 Le Mans specifications. What a thrill to meet Cameron and photograph the historic Porsche 356/SL Gmünd Coupe at Rennsport! The PORSCHE RENNSPORT REUNION 7 broke records, attracting close to 100,000 attendees who traveled from all corners of the globe to participate in the Porsche Heritage fun and excitement. Of course, there was lots of racing; Rennsport is German for racing. There were more than 300 racecar entries – like Bob Campbell’s shiny and speedy Porsche ‘Special’, captured here bombing into turn 5 early Sunday morning. Over the course of 4 days racers competed across seven different classes on the repaved WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca circuit.Prayers and Praise. One of the more eye-catching racecars at Rennsport, and frankly any event it’s raced or displayed at, is the famous American Le Mans winning, DHL supported Porsche RS Spyder Type 9R6 car No. 5. The 9R6 was designed by Porsche in conjunction with Penske to compete in Le Mans Prototype Class 2 (LMP2) racing. It debuted in the 2005 American Le Mans Series (ALMS) at Laguna Seca, winning its class. When I reviewed my photos of the car when it was parked on pit lane for the Concours display, I discovered its caretaker in a reverent kneeling pose, and a photographer seemingly floating like an angel above its rear wing.PORSCHE RENNSPORT REUNION 7One of the longer and lower Porsche racing history icons on display in the TAG Heuer sponsored Heritage Display Tent was the ‘68 Porsche Type 907 LH (Langheck). Chassis 907-005 is one of just eight Langhecks (longtails) built, and is the first Porsche ever to win a 24-hour endurance race. It was a four-time entry at Le Mans, winning its class in 1971, and a top five competitor at Sebring and Monza. Engines: In 1967, a 2.0 L Flat-Six; In 1968, a 2.2 L Flat-Eight.What classic is in your carguy garage? Now wouldn’t it be cool if we all had the money and the means to put a significant piece of racing technology and racing lore in our garages? I think I’d like to pull this Porsche 919 Hybrid into mine. It’s a jaw-dropping Le Mans Prototype 1 racecar entered by Porsche in the 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017 FIA World Endurance Championship seasons. In this configuration, power comes from a Porsche 9R9 2.0 L direct-injected, turbocharged V4 engine with a lithium-ion battery for energy recovery – and is delivered via a 7-speed gearbox to a 4WD system. There was a lot of excitement and eye-candy at the Saturday evening Pit Lane Concours at PORSCHE RENNSPORT REUNION 7. More often than not a car’s provenance delivers a proportional amount of pizazz – as is the case with this goosebumps-delivering ’97 Porsche 993 GT2. Acquired new by Larry Schumacher in 1997 it is a 1997 GTS-2 and 1998 GT2 Champion out of the Schumacher Racing stable. Yeah, it’s pretty, but its turbocharged 3,600-cc Flat Six engine produces over 600 horsepower. This awesome Porsche was sold at a Gooding & Company auction in 2021 for $460,000.Know in racing circles as the “Jager Bomb” this Porsche 962c chassis 117 has been wowing motorsports crowds since its debut in 1985. Swiss racing team Brun Motorsports competed with the car as a privateer team. Car No. 17 has a rich racing history having raced in the World Sports Prototype Championship from 1986 to 1989. It finished 2nd in its class at La Mans, was victorious at Spain’s Circuito Permanente de Jerez, and achieved an overall win at Belgium’s 1000-km Spa-Francorchamps in 1986. What a thrill to see it wow the crowds at Rennsport 7!Jim McCann’s silver Porsche 911 GT3 Cup racecar charges into turn 5 at Laguna Seca Sunday morning, midway through the Porsche Carrera Cup North America Race 1. The Carrera Cup is a racing series that ran in conjunction with the PORSCHE RENNSPORT REUNION 7 at Laguna Seca. Sunday’s two Carrera Cup races represented rounds 13 and 14 of the 2023 North America series. Jim’s car No. 83 is out of the McCann Racing team and automotive performance shop of Akron, Ohio. From 1990 to the end of 2019, Porsche produced and prepared a total of 4,251 GT3 Cup racecars. Its beverage is known as The Champagne of Beer, but its Miller 962 was known as the fastest 962 in the world back in 1989. With wins at the Daytona 24 Hours, the Porsche Cup and the Palm Beach GP, Porsche 962-108C is the chassis that racing historians consider the fastest 962 ever produced. So, it was no surprise that I had to press my way through a wall of excited fans to grab a photo of this iconic machine. During its winning season, Derek Bell, Bob Wollek and John Andretti piloted the Miller Livery 962-108C.True Confession: I do not know who the driver of this Porsche 550 Spyder is, but I do know he is one lucky guy to be sitting behind the wheel of the car that helped write Porsche’s early racing history. The hand-built 550 was introduced at the Paris Salon Car Show in 1953. Over the years some well-known names have driven 550 Spyders, including racing legends Jack McAfee, Ken Miles and Wolfgang Seidel. And, of course the 550 legend would explode internationally when the Spyder known as the Little Bastard crashed on September 30th of 1955, killing owner/driver James Dean.Girls just want to have fun! The Ginther Racing E-Production 914-4 makes its way onto the Pit Lane Concours display on September 30th. This high-visibility Teener has a number of unique features, perhaps the most obvious, its racing windshield from the Aircraft Windshield Company. Another pertinent fact is that the current owners at Frank Racing always bring a spare motor to track events – which turned out to be a good idea when they blew engine No. 1 at Rennsport. Undaunted, the girls and the team replaced the motor in the paddock and everyone got back to having fun!The Fast & The Luxurious. In 1958, when news of the Porsche 356A Carrera’s ability to hit 200 km/h (124.27 mph) spread to the general public, non-racers started to place orders. To placate the racing crowd, Porsche divided the series into De Luxe GS (with the luxury of a heater) and Gran Turismo (a stripped and lightened GT for racers). Further performance choices were offered such as a lighter Speedster model – like the ’58 356A Carrera GT Speedster featured here, competition axel and compression ratios, aluminum hoods and decklids, and of course, a full-race 1600-cc RS-60 engine option. The bold and beautiful, blue and gold livery on this ’76 Porsche 934 is one of my favorites. It’s easily recognizable from the spectator seats yet still understated by today’s anything-goes paradigm. Bosch-supported Car 14 was number 22 of 31 934s built by Porsche. It was raced in the 1976 Trans-Am Series, 24 Hours of Daytona and 12 Hours of Sebring – racking-up four podium finishes. Power is from a 3.0 Liter, single turbo Flat-Six. This car underwent a full ground-up restoration that was completed in 2020.The Porsche 910 racecar was produced from 1966 to 1967. Its design was based on the Porsche 906. Only 29 were produced and its racing history was limited to one year due to the fact that its racing rivals – the Ferrari Dino 206 and the powerful Ford GT40 – were simply better and faster. This 1967 example on display at PORSCHE RENNSPORT REUNION 7 is chassis 910-018. It was raced across Europe with Hans-Dieter Blatzheim and later acquired by the Hollywood Cigarettes racing team in Brazil.PORSCHE RENNSPORT REUNION 7If we had to pick our favorite vehicle at the PORSCHE RENNSPORT REUNION 7 simply based on the total number of scale models produced in its likeness, then the smile-inducing VW T1 Rennstall Bunker transporter would have to be the winner. This one-off, extended wheelbase T1 was fabricated in the mid-1950s for Art’s Sports and Utility Motors of Kansas City, MO. It’s my understanding that the original was lost but this carefully-crafted replica tours tracks and shows today with its vintage Porsche Spyder on-board.If you’re not a Porsche zealot you may be surprised to learn that when Ferdinand Porsche founded his pre-war engineering and automotive company in Stuttgart in 1931, a good deal of the work was related to tractor designs featuring both gas and diesel powerplants. Post-war manufacturing restrictions hampered much of what Porsche was trying to accomplish, but ultimately the company did manufacture technologically-advanced tractors between 1956 and 1963 – with more than 125,000 examples produced. So of course, no true Porsche Reunion could be complete without a Porsche Tractor Race. I grabbed this Staging Lane shot as the tractors were lining-up for Tractor Race No. 1 on Saturday. The PORSCHE RENNSPORT REUNION 7 was a really big deal. From the record-breaking crowds to the races and racing legends in attendance – plus special events like the Doobie Brothers concert in the paddock, the global debut of the Porsche 911 GT3 R, kid-friendly activities, arcade games, tractor races, TAG-Heuer/Porsche Heritage displays, a coloring wall of Porsche cars, autograph sessions, and the coming-together of the global Porsche community, and, along with the screening of the new Transformers movie Rise of the Beasts, a presence in the paddock of building-size replicas of the movie’s principal characters – like this Big Guy here who apparently had to wait in line like us humans to grab an autograph from his favorite Porsche legend!

JAN HYDE, MR. CORVETTE RACING

The Registry of Corvette Racing’s – JAN HYDE, MR. CORVETTE RACING – was bitten by the Corvette ‘bug’ in 1964, resulting in the purchase of a ’60 Corvette Fuelie. And, he still owns it!

JAN HYDE, MR. CORVETTE RACING

Jan Hyde firmly believes that it was racing that saved the Corvette from an early death, and he has dedicated untold hours to preserving and celebrating its racing achievements from earliest times to the present. But it was probably his relationship with legendary privateer Corvette racer and SCCA B/Sports Champion, Frank Dominianni that got him started in historic racing and creating his Corvette racing archive:  The Registry of Corvette Racing, https://registryofcorvetteracecars.com/

Jan Hyde has been a friend of mine since the 1970s when I did a feature on his ’60 Corvette Fuelie in VETTE, the magazine I founded. He later re-introduced me to Frank Dominianni, top, driving #69 at Laguna Seca in 1987,  who I had known for his Corvette racing exploits and engine building and dyno tuning talents at HI=speed POWER EQUIPMENT, Valley, Stream, NY in the 1960s. In 1970 Frank, right with Jan Hyde and his ’60 Corvette Fuelie,  sold his #69 SCCA B/Production national points championship ’62 Fuelie to Jan. He started historic racing and later launched his iconic Corvette racing website.
