The research also revealed the makes and models of cars most targeted by criminals, with popular family cars (Ford Fiesta, Ford Focus and Vauxhall Corsa) heading the list.

“Having your car stolen is one of the most distressing experiences a person can endure and sadly, it is still something that blights everyday life, particularly in our cities,” said Paul Evans, head of motor insurance at Co-op Insurance.

“Our claims data shows that car crime rates in London have remained continuously high, but it’s interesting to see that places like Preston and Stockport are also emerging hotspots in the North.”

TV consumer champion and former car dealer, Dominic Littlewood, added: “Whether our cars are parked on the driveway or in an urban car park, they are vulnerable to car thieves who are becoming increasingly well organised in targeting the vehicles on their wish list.

“There are a number of really simple steps that car owners can take to make sure their vehicle doesn’t look so appealing – from simply turning your car wheels to face the kerb and investing in some simple deterrents like steering wheel locks.

“And don’t think it won’t happen to you, cheaper makes and models are becoming more attractive than ever to thieves. It’s also important to get the right car insurance in place so if the worst does happen, you’ll get the money to buy another car quickly and conveniently.”

Nissan Qashqai London South Bank show

The all-new electrified Nissan Qashqai is the star of Europe’s first automotive 3D experiential activity.

The exciting visual stunt, to mark the third generation of the best-selling British-built SUV, can be seen on London’s South Bank between June 18-25.

A six-metre, four-sided cube has been used to create a 3D effect that allows the Qashqai to “leap out of the screen” towards the viewer.

Passers-by will see a dramatic storm form , then the car (initially boxed inside) dramatically emerges.

The live audience can also scan a QR code allowing them to see the Qashqai in a richer augmented reality from their smartphone.

“The all-new Nissan Qashqai sets a new benchmark in design and technology, continuing Nissan’s proud history of innovation for the masses,” said Nic Thomas, marketing director at Nissan.

“This exciting 3D installation brings that powerful message to spectators in a way many will never have experienced digital content before.

“We are delighted to be launching our flagship car with this innovative customer experience that will equally excite those watching in London, or seeing digital footage online.”

The work was created by TBWALondon’s Scott Andrews and Leigh Gilbert, with production handled by Pixel Artworks. The media agency is Manning Gottlieb OMD and the outdoor specialist is Talon Outdoor.

Mum-of-three Juliette Morrison from Pinner, London, has won a brand new Range Rover Evoque in a competition run by Vanarama – the UK’s biggest online vehicle leasing business.

The prize couldn’t have come at a better time for Juliette, who works with the homeless community in Watford.

In 2020 she lost her long-established serviced apartment business to the pandemic and had to sell her car to release finance.

But things took a dramatic turn for the better when she won the new motor – a Range Rover Evoque D180 S R-Dynamic, worth around £40,000 – in Vanarama’s ‘New Lease of Life’ competition on Instagram Live.

“Working with the homeless community I can’t say that I’ve had bad luck – I’m lucky to have a nice house and a lovely family and we all have our health,” she said.

“2020 did have its difficulties but there were many others who had a far tougher time than me.

“Winning the car will make a massive difference though and I’m delighted.”
