Polestar UK opens new HQ at Bicester Heritage

Swedish electric performance car brand Polestar has opened its new head office at the Bicester Heritage complex in north Oxfordshire.

A new Polestar Space based in the same two-storey building will open in January 2023.

The Polestar Space will be located on the ground floor and offer a welcoming environment for customers to experience and test drive Polestar EVs. The location will also host exclusive customer events.

As well as the popular Polestar 2, an awesome Polestar 1 and stunning Polestar Precept (it will evolve into Polestar 5) were on display in the showroom for the launch event.

“With the opening of our first UK commercial Head Office, Polestar is demonstrating the importance of the market to its growth globally,” said Jonathan Goodman, Head of Polestar UK.

“With more than 11,000 Polestar cars now on our roads, this also reflects the rate of pure EV adoption increasing enormously in the UK.

“Bicester Heritage’s approach really resonates with Polestar as an enthusiast brand, and we expect we will fit in well with the other fantastic brands already on site.

“We will be an open and welcoming head office and we look forward to meeting Bicester Heritage visitors, as well as existing and future Polestar customers over the coming months.”

Swedish EV maker Polestar has unveiled its first SUV – a car which is expected to turbo-charge the brand’s sales.

Priced from £79,900, it was also be the first Polestar to be produced on two continents – Chengdu, China and Ridgeville, South Carolina.

Polestar 3 will compete with other electric SUVs in the premium sector, including the Jaguar I-Pace, BMW iX, Mercedes-Benz EQC and Audi e-tron.

It will launch with a dual-motor powertrain, which in standard form produces 483bhp and 618lb ft of torque. That’s enough to power the 2.5-tonne 4×4 from 0-62mph in 5.0sec and on to a top speed of 130mph.

An optional Performance Pack adds an extra 27bhp and 51lb ft, shaving 0.3sec off the 0-62mph sprint.

More importantly to some, the long Range Polestar 3 will have a 111kWh lithium ion battery that has a claimed range of up to 379 miles and a peak charging rate of 250kW. It’s also capable of bidirectional vehicle-to-grid charging and features a heat pump as standard.

The car’s rakish profile is reminiscent of a stretched Volvo C40 Recharge, while aerodynamic touches include air channels at the front of the bonnet, plus a raised spoiler at the top of the tailgate.

The materials used inside Polestar 3 have been selected for their sustainability credentials. These include bio-attributed MicroTech, animal welfare-certified leather and fully traceable wool upholsteries.

“Polestar 3 is a powerful electric SUV that appeals to the senses with a distinct, Scandinavian design and excellent driving dynamics,” said Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar CEO.

Polestar has announced that the world premiere of its next car, the Polestar 3 electric performance SUV, will be in October 2022.

The vehicle will be the Swedish electric performance car company’s first SUV and will join the existing Polestar 2 five-door fastback in the line-up.

Polestar 3 will feature a dual-motor drivetrain and a large battery, with a range target of around 373 miles.

The confirmation of the world premiere comes with the first undisguised image of the car.

Production is expected to begin in early 2023, and Polestar 3 will be manufactured in the United States and China.

“Polestar 3 is the SUV for the electric age. Our design identity evolves with this high-end large luxury EV, with a strong, individual brand character,” says Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar CEO.

“With this car, we bring the ‘sport’ back to the SUV, staying true to our performance roots.”

“This is a major milestone for our company, one that boosts our growth trajectory and takes us into our next phase.”

Polestar plans to launch a new car every year for the next three years, starting with Polestar 3, and aims to increase its presence to at least 30 global markets by the end of 2023.

It also plans to grow its global sales ten-fold from approximately 29,000 in 2021 to some 290,000 by the end of 2025.

Polestar and Nicola Adams in new partnership

Double Olympic gold medallist Nicola Adams and Swedish electric performance car brand Polestar have announced an official partnership.

The 39-year-old’s first Polestar experience was at the 2021 Goodwood Festival of Speed during a passenger ride up the famous hill climb in an experimental version of the 100% electric Polestar 2.

Now, as a member of the Polestar family, Nicola’s taken delivery of a Polestar 2 Long range Dual motor. The 100% electric performance fastback is capable of travelling up to 299 miles on a single charge and accelerating from 0-60mph in 4.5 seconds.

The partnership cements Polestar’s focus on performance, while bringing sustainable personal mobility to a new audience via the retired boxer’s following.

Nicola recently launched her own documentary film, Lioness, which tracks her inspirational journey to becoming the first female Olympic boxing champion. A common theme in the film is the sexism she faced as a young female athlete.

Polestar hopes the partnership “will foster further opportunities to stand together for a more sustainable, equitable and innovative future”.

“I am passionate about making sustainable choices and doing my bit to help the environment and tackle climate change, starting with what I’m driving,” said the former Strictly Come Dancing star.

“Being 100% electric, the Polestar 2 ticks that box perfectly. It also doesn’t hurt that the design is sleek, it features the latest tech such as Google Assistant, and it’s the perfect size for myself, Ella and our dog.”

The equal rights champion added: “I am so excited about this partnership, hopefully it will inspire more people to go electric.”
