Handling Upgrade: How to Make an Audi Q5 Handle More Like an SQ5

Audi Q5SQ5 is the model for you. However, as good as the SQ5 is, it does carry a 25 percent price premium compared to the regular Audi Q5. Of course, the SQ5 comes with more power and features that help to justify the price. But maybe you don’t want to spend that much. Or you simply don’t feel that you need the extra power. Maybe you just wish your regular Q5 could handle more like the SQ5. Well, the good news is that you can achieve that without breaking the bank.

A recent thread in the Audi World forums was posted on this very subject. Member stash64 started the thread titled: Rear Sway Bar Upgrade. The goal was simple. How do you improve the handling and reduce understeer on the Audi Q5? The goal is not to build an SQ5 killer on the cheap or a mid-size SUV that would set blistering lap times on the Nürburgring. And the goal is certainly not to ruin the ride. Here are the steps you will want to take if you want your Q5 to handle better in the order that you should proceed.

Winter tyres ‘aren’t a priority’ for UK drivers

Audi RS 3: dancing in the snow

Just one in five motorists in the UK think it is important to swap their cars onto winter tyres, new research by Audi UK indicates.

The use of winter tyres is mandatory during the winter months in many countries and regions throughout Europe, but there is no legal requirement to fit them in the UK.

However, the study – which coincides with Road Safety Week- revealed that 61% of the UK drivers had no plans to switch to winter tyres this year.

For 44% of survey respondents, the absence of legal obligation was enough to convince them to pass up the added safety and protection winter tyres offer, while the impact on running costs of buying and maintaining an additional set of tyres was the spanner in the works for 40% of respondents.

Additionally, the potential difficulties involved in storing the wheels and/or tyres out-of-season was the main impediment for 22% of participants.

“The safety benefits of winter wheels and tyres are considerable from temperatures below 7°C – regularly seen in the UK as the winter months roll in,“ says Audi UK’s James Allitt.

“Our research highlights misconceptions among UK drivers about their merits, and also understandable concerns about the cost and inconvenience of ownership, and I hope we’ve gone some way towards addressing these misconceptions.

“Fundamentally, though, I firmly believe that any driver able to make the switch to winter tyres won’t ever regret doing so when they feel the difference they can make.”

Only 8% of drivers are aware of EV-specific tyres

Bridgestone makes tyres for EVs

Less than one in 10 UK motorists know the difference between standard tyres and EV tyres – and the money-saving benefits they offer.

The number of electric car owners on our roads stands at 477,000, but only a small percentage of them know the importance of fitting custom-made EV tyres to the wheels, according to Bridgestone’s YouGov commissioned research.

Of 2,000 motorists questioned,, 47% said they will be switching to an EV to save on high fuel costs, with 56% sold by the environmental benefits of driving an electric car.

However, the lack of knowledge on EV tyres could undermine any savings made with more trips for tyre replacements.

EVs are much heavier than conventional cars and the added weight is ultimately carried by the tyres. Without adaptation to compensate, non-EV tyres are much more likely to wear quicker and won’t last as long.

“What’s clear from our survey is that very few motorists are aware that there are tyres specifically designed for electric vehicles and even fewer know the benefits of them,” said Bridgestone’s North Region Vice President Andrea Manenti.
